Llangollen Club were stunned and delighted to win the 2012 Rally at Rhug. We had a go at most things but were not always successful, so when the results were announced we were amazed. Many thanks to all the members and those involved with the Club who helped along the way. The Royal Welsh Show turned in to a busy one with 21 of our members competing at some point during the week. They did manage to find some time to enjoy the festivities though! Membership has changed within the Club and we are now a somewhat smaller unit of about 15-20 members. That hasn’t stopped us getting involved with quite a few local events. In September, we helped steward the Etape bike race over a 90 mile course in our area. It was a 5am start and a very long day. In mid-October, we did our annual 2-day stint at the Llan Food Fair. Much easier on the legs and plenty of tasty samples available this time! On December 9th we held our Fashion Show at the Town Hall. It was run by Manchester fashion buyers Fizz and Jazz and everyone enjoyed seeing Eleri strut her stuff on the catwalk with a huge smile on her face. We broke with tradition this Christmas and instead of going carol singing round local farms, we went to the Abbey Dingle Nursing Home on a Sunday afternoon and sang for the residents. Funny how it was mainly the girls of the Club that turned up! A lovely afternoon tea followed our efforts. Instead of a Christmas dinner we all went together to Frankie and Benny’s in Wrexham, again another thing we haven’t done before.
As a well known youth group, we have been included in a book about all the clubs and societies in our Town. The two authors wanted serious photographs and we all had to dress in black and white. The book is about to be launched which will be interesting to see.
Weekly events have included a variety of things, sports, visits, speakers and trips everything from dominoes to dodgeball, skating to sausage-making. As long as there some fun to be had, we’ll probably try it, well at least once!
As far as County events go, Llan try and attend most. We have enjoyed being part of the Rounders match at Beefy’s Bikeride last September, 19 members went to the President’s Ball at Plas Isaf and 5 members were lucky enough to get onto the Paris Agricultural Show trip in February. We try and take part in most of the competitions arranged. The Winter Fair competitions, Titles Night, English public speaking, Quiz, County Field Day and then the Wales Public Speaking and Wales Field Day teams. We managed to win the Quiz and Titles Night events but enjoy taking part whatever the outcome.
If any of the above appeals to you, why not contact one of the Officials above and find out about joining us
