Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun! Can’t believe another year with Cilcain has gone by already. We’ve had another successful year in the club, participating in competitions and events across the county and Wales. In addition to this we have also built on our membership numbers and gained several new members who are now all well involved in the group.
Throughout the year the club has welcomed a number of guest speakers ranging from a Citizens Advice Bureau to the British Heart Foundation to a wild zumba dancing teacher! We’ve also gone on a variety of trips out including go-karting, Patchwork Pate, Crocky Trail and of course the trip to Paris in February! This was a trip enjoyed thoroughly by all members who attended and I don’t think we’ve ever fitted in so much in such a short space of time!
Before we knew it was the annual Cilcain Bonfire night held on the field! As always this was a success and provided us with £1753.00, enough money to cover our costs for the year. However, it’s not all good news. Last September we were all given the devastating news that our Vice President, Dave Roberts had sadly passed away. Following this terrible loss we decided that our chosen charity for the Harvest Festival would be the Stroke Ward 14 in Glan Clwyd Hospital. The Harvest Festival was very well attended and raised £268.53 for the ward. Cilcain also suffered the awful loss of a great friend of many of the club’s members, Gareth Williams. The money raised at the Cilcain Show from the clubs slippery pole stand and our Summer BBQ came to £260.12 in total which was donated to the Williams family to donate to a charity of their choice. The club has taken part in a range of stock judging and public speaking competitions in the past 12 months with Anna Hickie-Roberts going down to Brecon to represent Cilcain after her success in the 16 and Under English Public Speaking competition where she came joint first and was chosen the best chair speaker. Dafydd Williams also received the well earned Junior Member of the year award from the county. The Cilcain lads also came flying through the finish line in first place on the Raft Race in Wrexham on their sturdy, streamlined raft! So no matter what it is, Cilcain YFC are always willing to give it a good go! Well on one condition...they can go to the pub after it!!
